What are these made of?

The InsideStormWindow is made of an aluminum frame with a foam strip around the perimeter that acts as a seal against your existing window or frame. The “window” part is made of a special heavy duty 10 mil “memory” vinyl. It stretches and returns to its original shape almost instantaneously.

 

How much energy will I save?

The amount of energy and therefore MONEY that you save is dependent on how bad your existing windows leak. The more leaky your existing windows are, the more money you will save. Remember, you will also reduce the amount of dirt, dust and pollen and noise that sneaks into your house through your windows.

 

What if my window opening is out of square?

Please check to make sure your opening is SQUARE. You can check the opening for square by measuring diagonally from corner to opposite corner. If the two measurements are equal, then the opening is square. If the opening is out of square, you must adjust the size of the InsideStormWindow to accommodate the opening. You can also check "squareness" by using a framing square, or by using a large piece of material that you know is square. If the opening is slightly out of square, you can just make the InsideStormWindow a little bit smaller on width and height. If it is really out of square, you will have to add tapered "stops" to square up the opening. Note photo of the dimensions of the frame material. You will see that the "landing area" of the frame (the section that has the foam seal attached) has a dimension of 1/2 inch. This gives you some leeway for out of square openings.

 

What colors are they available in?

The frames are available in white, beige or bronze. The memory vinyl is clear, grey or bronze.

 

Do the colors cost more?

No, the colors of the frame or the memory vinyl are all the same price.

 

What do I need to install them?

The InsideStormWindows need only common tools to be installed. Depending on your mounting needs, a drill, a screwdriver and screws to match the material of your mounting surface are needed. We supply the clips to hold them in place and make them removable.

 

What can I do if I don’t feel confident in my installation skills?

Any handyman will be able to help you install these units. They really do require only basic skills.

 

Is there only one way to install the InsideStormWindows ?

No, there are many ways to attach the InsideStormWindows to your window frames. We can even send them with pre-drilled holes so you can simply screw them directly through the frame of the InsideStormWindows onto your existing window frame. If your frame is wood, you can use a pan-head wood screw. If your window frame is metal, you can use a pan-head sheet metal screw. Pre-drilling pilot holes in metal is necessary, pre-drilling for wood screws is a good idea to prevent splitting, especially if you are screwing into hardwood.

 

Can I order them one at a time?

You can, however shipping is based on the length, width and thickness of the package. A package must be made to accommodate the largest window on your order. Because of this, a 36” x  54” package that is 3 inches thick will cost almost the same to ship as a package that is 10 inches thick. Therefore, you can order up to ten InsideStormWindows for the same shipping cost as one or two units.

 

What is the lead time before the InsideStormWindows  will be shipped?

Normal lead time is 3 to 4 weeks.

 

When am I billed for the units I order?

Your credit card is charged 50% of the total when you place the order. The balance of the total is charged when the units are shipped. All InsideStormWindows are customer made to your specifications, so there are no cancellations or returns permitted. Please see our instructional videos for details on how to measure and order.

 

How long have you been in business?

InsideStormWindows is a division of Thermal Sash Window and Door Systems Inc. located at 531 Pottstown Pike, Chester Springs, Pa. The company was founded in 1984 and the current owners have been operating the company since 1991.

 

What are the details on the quarterly photo prize awards?
